40th Anniversary of
Statistical Energy Analysis
February 6, 2000 marks the
40th anniversary of Statistical Energy Analysis. On
this date in 1960, Richard H. Lyon wrote in his notebook "Energy Flow
between Linearly Coupled Modes," and with that note SEA was
conceived in its embryonic form. Analysis and computations
on subsequent pages set the framework for SEA as it was to developed
in the coming decades. Now, 40 years later, SEA is a
widely used noise analysis tool for coupled structures and for
structures coupled to fluid media. Several commercial
SEA numerical analysis software programs are available. These aid
users in the application of this powerful tool to specific design
problems. A glimpse of SEA in its nascent form may be seen above.
In honor of this 40th anniversary occasion, Dr. Lyon's
book Theory and Application of Statistical Energy Analysis
(with Richard G. Dejong), long out of print, has been made available
through
Amazon.com.
